Hi there it’s
Safaa
I am a Master of Architecture graduate from the University of Waterloo, with a specialization in bio-based material studies. Across all my projects, I prioritize advocacy for oppressed and underrepresented voices—both human and more-than-human—ensuring that my initiatives contribute meaningfully to social and environmental justice.
With over five years of grassroots advocacy experience, I have co-founded multiple organizations dedicated to Palestinian justice and freedom. This commitment to activism is at the core of everything I do, from my creative projects to my advocacy work, as I strive to amplify marginalized voices.
Each project is an opportunity to engage deeply with the human experience and to highlight the intrinsic value of marginalized voices. My research on the common milkweed, an often-overlooked native species essential to the endangered monarch butterfly, brought awareness to its ecological role through exhibitions and publications. This work reflects my commitment to advocating for often-silenced voices in every form.
Working and living across various North American and European cities, I have developed a wealth of diverse knowledge, collaborating with different communities and learning from a variety of cultures. I have contributed creative and research-based writing to local and international publications including POOL, Galt, Chutney, and Al-Rawiya. In all of my work, empathy is the driving force behind my advocacy for underrepresented voices. Through exhibitions, interactive installations, publications, and public talks, I aim to foster broader awareness and connect my work to movements for equity, justice, and ecological resilience.
I’m also passionate about
cooking, DIY projects, spontaneous travel, film photography, writing poetry, and commuting via cycling.
